We love what we do because of the people we do it with.
Our home on Frederick Street is vibrant & full of character, shaped by the people who bring it to life. You’ll find folks chatting over a cuppa, brainstorming new ideas, perusing the Birmingham Design Shop & lots more. There’s never a dull day.
We’re lucky enough to have some growing independent businesses under our roof. The Jointworks is the HQ for some brilliant folks including Substrakt, Switch, Superco, Develo, JQ Bid, Impakt, Kingel, Method in Motion and 2G Design & Build. It’s also proudly home to the team behind Birmingham Design (you can check out their new shop in our reception, the stock is very cool).

If you haven’t met us yet, say hello to the wonderful team behind The Jointworks!
Sammy Ha and Darby Jasmine Hutchby are our lovely Community and Building Managers (Darby isn’t pictured here). Their friendly faces will be welcoming you if you come in to work, attend an event or visit the shop. Sammy is also a very talented illustrator and artist, and Darby an excellent graphic designer.
Luke Tonge and Daniel Alcorn run Birmingham Design Festival, whose shop (Birmingham Design Shop) is located at the entrance of our building, open 9am-5pm every weekday. The shop is filled with beautiful design books, magazines, stationery, homeware and gifts. Running events such as JQ Makers Market, and internship programmes, Luke and Dan keep us firmly rooted in Birmingham’s creative community.
Matthew Taylor and Leanne Tattum are co-owners of Method In Motion, and along with Andy Hartwell (Founder & CEO of Substrakt) look after the strategic direction and top level operations of the building.
Kathryn Mason (not pictured), is Substrakt’s marketing lead and helps us keep our comms efforts moving along.
Together, along with the other wonderful people in the Jointworks, we’re building a creative community where ideas, support and connection help everyone grow.
